We are eight months in with this new administration and their sweeping rollback on women’s reproductive rights is regressing instead of advancing.
Since 2012 I have travelled to countries lacking resources for advancing essential health services for women. My plan was to distribute family planning cycle beads and when I ran out, I taught women how to make their own.
The cycle bead system is a discrete calendar necklace that raises awareness and helps women track and better understand their fertility cycle.
I taught family planning and proper maternal diet at high schools, schools for pregnant teens, churches, flea markets, remote villages both far and wide.
Fast forward 14 years later, I am now teaching the cycle bead system here in the US as well as developing countries.
One woman dies in childbirth every two minutes. This is why it is imperative that we resist this tragic backsliding.
